Our English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) is a good starting point for any students who wish to improve their overall English for work, study or social purposes. English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) is well suited to both short-term students (such as backpackers and tourists) and long-term students (intending to complete further study or those taking a gap year).

Regular in-class assessments with your teacher ensure that you get regular feedback regarding your ability and areas of improvement you need to focus on.
Small class sizes ensure the optimum learning environment. Less than 18 students to a class assists with language learning.
As a student, you are placed in a class with other students at your English level.
Your class teacher will set regular homework activities to reinforce what you learn in class.
As part of their orientation, students participate in English testing to determine the best class for them.
Students are provided ongoing access to a wide variety of learning resources through our e-learning portal.
Morning or afternoon timetables are available, allowing students maximum flexibility. Students can start their course on any Monday (except Christmas holiday periods).
Your class teacher will take your class on regular off-campus excursions (field trips) of educational benefit. HCLA also hosts regular social functions on campus.
As an ‘intensive’ course with 20 class hours per week, this course is suitable for those that intend to study on a Student Visa.
Students have access to study spaces, computer labs and library resources outside of class hours.
To be eligible for admission to the program an applicant will be:
Students studying in Australia on a student visa must meet all attendance requirements (minimum 80% attendance). If a student is ill and unable to attend class, they must get a medical certificate from a qualified medical practitioner and provide this to their class teacher. Attendance is monitored by the college and students receive warning letters if their attendance is at risk of dropping.
Classes are offered year-round at each different English level (Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate and Upper-Intermediate) to accommodate students at a wide variety of skill levels. Classes are structured around a 12-week academic calendar. Students spend on average approximately 12 weeks at each level before progressing to the next level. To ensure their success, students need to be proactive and engaged learners, complete assigned homework and assignments, work closely with their class teacher and attend classes on a regular basis (see attendance requirements). Upon successful completion of the program, students have the option of graduating or moving into further academic English programs (such as English for Academic Purposes).

The Occupational English Test Preparation course enhances the English language skills of healthcare professionals who wish to work or study in English speaking environment. This course prepares students for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), that is a popular test for anyone who intends to study, work or settle in Australia. English for Academic Purposes - our EAP program is designed for students that intend to complete further studies in an English speaking vocational or higher education setting. This course has an academic skills focus. This course will prepare students for the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic), which is a computer-based English language test for non-native English speakers intending to study, work or settle in Australia. HCLA provides a comprehensive English for Higher Education to suit you whether you're balancing work, family or just life in general; we will assist you with your English proficiency.
