OET Preparation Course

Introduction

This preparation course will help students study for the Occupational English Test, completing the test is a proof of students’ ability to communicate in any English speaking healthcare facility.

Why OET Preparation?

The course prepares students for the Occupational English Test (OET), which meets the requirement for health professionals who seek to practice in Australia. It is also one of the tests recognised by the Department of Home Affairs (DOHA).

Students can develop their confidence and fluency in communicating in English language in the healthcare workplace or educational setting.

What Will We Focus On?

This course provides a clear understanding of the OET and its requirements, while improving the four macro skills of listening, speaking reading and writing. Students will gain confidence and fluency in their communication within the context of nursing and other healthcare disciplines.

Reading

Reading materials specific to the health industry from academic and professional journals to improve your reading skills.

Writing

A variety of exercises and activities that emulate real scenarios to practise professional writing for the healthcare workplace.

Listening

A wide range of listening materials with a collection of healthcare topics to assess your listening ability of spoken communication in healthcare contexts.

Speaking

Activities based on typical workplace situations to engage in complex conversations that occur in your workplace with effective, appropriate overall communication.

The course offers students the opportunity to excel in their field by addressing their specific learning needs and working towards their individual language proficiency goals.

OET B Level

The course will prepare students for an OET B level (High level of performance, i.e. able to use English with fluency and accuracy adequate for professional needs).

Recognised by AHPRA

OET B is recognised by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as the level of English proficiency required for professional registration in a variety of healthcare professions.
